Striking down the Ill. Public Duty Doctrine is not an attack on EMS

In the law, there is a well-defined distinction between liability protection and immunity.

In EMS, there is mostly-understood difference between incompetence and negligence.

Generally, liability protection recognizes that accidents happen; immunity does not care what you do. Can you see the difference?

All across the Land O’ Lincoln, EMS providers of all kinds are reacting to the Illinois Supreme Court decision that essentially abolishes the so-called “Public Duty Doctrine.” 

I’m here to tell you that there is nothing to fear and it is not an attack on nor an affront to the very important work EMS providers do.
