TAPES, TIPS, AND TRAPS: The most politically incorrect 4 hours of EMS continuing education you will ever have!
Friday, February 21, 2014 from 0800 – 12:30PM.
TAPE REVIEW V1.0 The program begins with the review of radio reports from a variety of base station calls. Each run report will be followed by unfiltered medical and legal analysis of the assessment, the care provided, protocol and policy compliance, and “opportunities for improvement.”
UNDERSTANDING NEGLIGENCE Participants will develop a fundamental understanding of what “negligence” actually means and how the law of negligence applies to EMS providers. Furthermore, participants will learn to apply that understanding of negligence to prevent the negative impact of conduct that falls short of negligence, but is equally devastating to an EMS career.
COMMON EMS EXPOSURES Participants will develop an understanding of the potentially significant legal risks for EMS providers aside from patient care. We will discuss how social media, driving, and conduct off-duty can lead to significant consequences.
THE TRUTH ABOUT DOCUMENTATION Not another lecture on “how” to document! Instead, we will learn to apply a newly acquired understanding of EMS Law to identify “what” to document, and “why,” all to improve patient care…and documentation.
TAPE REVIEW V2.0 Let’s take this newly cultivated understanding of the law out for a spin by reviewing more radio reports and letting participants do both the medical and legal analysis.
OPEN FORUM No questions and no answers are off limits in this Q&A session of the most uncomfortable kind. It’s everything (and anything) you always wanted to know about EMS/Law, but were afraid to ask. We will attack real-life issues with a new understanding of how the law applied then and applies now.
TAKE IT TO THE STREETS At the end, every participant will be challenged to identify their own single most important lesson of the day, then spread that word to as many other providers as possible.
